We're craving piping-hot comfort food this winter and our local restaurants offer some of the very best dishes to warm your heart and soul.
1. Warm Up at Oasis cafe
Who doesn't crave coffee this time of year? It's the best way to conquer the colder temps and shorter days. Stop by Oasis Cafe for a warm up and a pick-me-up. Standard favorites including lattes, cocoa, and mochas are all on the menu, as well as delicious Matcha Lattes, Chai Lattes, and Miel, made with espresso, steamed milk, honey, and cinnamon. If you're there over lunch, try some of their made from scratch soups or Paul's Pelmeni, Russian beef and potato dumplings served with sour cream.
2. Chili At Seminole Tap
The Seminole Tap, located just off of McKee Road in Fitchburg, is a local favorite for delicious comfort food, cocktails, and beer. When the temps drop, a bowl of their perfectly-seasoned chili hits the spot and pairs well with any beer on tap. Chili is on the menu seasonally, so you'll have to get it before spring hits! The Seminole Tap also has great specials featured throughout the week, including Meatloaf Wednesdays, and Beef Stroganoff with 1/2 priced bottles of wine on Thursdays (dinner only).
3. Ollie's Jambalaya bowl
Ollie's is the ideal spot for a delicious meal, made from scratch. When the chilly weather hits, we love their Jambalaya Bowl, made with Andouille sausage, bacon, and shrimp on a spicy tomato and pepper sauce over rice. Ollie's also has many gluten free and vegan options, as well, and happy hour specials Tuesday-Saturday from 4:00pm-5:00pm.
4. Buffalo Mac & Cheese at the Great Dane
One of Wisconsin's cold-weather comfort foods, Mac & Cheese, always hits the spot when the snow starts to fly. The Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. serves up a spicier Buffalo Mac & Cheese, that does the dairy state proud! Their buffalo mac is made with Wisconsin sharp cheddar, gruyere, parmesan cheese sauce, grilled chicken, 3-alarm hot sauce, scallion, tomato, and gorgonzola. We suggest pairing the soup with your favorite Great Dane Brew!
5. Panang Curry At Curry In The Box
Curry In The Box is a great spot to try some Thai curries this winter, where diners can choose their level of spice in each dish. The panang curry is a delight, with tender pieces of chicken, large cubes of butternut squash, a slightly-spicy, slightly-sweet yellow peanut sauce, and generous amounts of carrots and broccoli. The portions are perfect, leaving you satisfied, but not overly full. Curry in the Box is a cozy place to warm you up on a winter day.
